Joe Wilson ’68 Uses Deferred Charitable Gift Annuity to Invest in Swarthmore’s Future

After graduating from Swarthmore with a degree in economics, Joe Wilson ’68 spent a year at Penn Law, two years of alternate service as a conscientious objector, and then earned a master’s degree before practicing tax as a CPA. His desire for reliability in the early days of his career, combined with his love for Swarthmore, resulted in his funding a deferred charitable gift annuity as an investment in his and the College’s future.
Joe chose Swarthmore for its location and Quaker history and traditions. He has remained involved in the school over the years, including attending his 50th reunion, participating in volunteer weekends, and serving as a member of the deferred gifts committee.
“Every time I come back to campus and listen to the students, I realize how special Swarthmore is and how important it is that the College continues,” Joe says.

A member of the swim team and sports editor for The Phoenix, Joe gained lifelong mentors and friendships during his time on campus. His planned gift will help future students enjoy the same life-enhancing benefits.
“Swarthmore is an important part of my life, and that’s why I created a deferred charitable gift annuity with the College,” he says. “It is great knowing a future student will benefit from my gift.”
Joe hopes other alumni will join him in making a planned gift.
“If you like the idea of supporting Swarthmore, a deferred charitable gift annuity is an outstanding option,” he says. “It acts like a cushion because it will always be there, but it will benefit the school as well. It’s a great idea.”
