Cordelia Delson Taps New Opportunity to Fund CGAs to Keep the Chester Children’s Chorus Going Strong
Cordelia Delson
Cordelia Delson loves music and its power to transform lives, which is why she is supporting the future of the Chester Children’s Chorus (CCC) at Swarthmore College by funding a charitable gift annuity (CGA) through her IRA.
A longtime CCC board member, Delson is one of the first people to make this kind of gift since a new law made it possible to use tax-free transfers of funds from IRAs for life-income plans, subject to certain requirements and limitations.
“I believe in the future of the CCC,” she says.
Delson became heavily involved with the chorus in 2002 when its founder, John Alston H’15, asked her to form its governing board. Calling on community leaders she knew through her volunteer service, Delson soon had a strong board in place. From there, the chorus grew and currently includes more than 100 youngsters from the Chester community at any given time.
Delson says her planned gift is a way of leading by example, showing other board members how they, too, can support the chorus for years to come.
“We need to start thinking about the future of the CCC,” Delson says. “A charitable gift annuity is a way to guarantee that the program has support for the next generation.”
For Delson, the opportunity to use funds from her IRA to establish a CGA makes sense for her financially while creating a future benefit for the children’s chorus.
“Every now and then, a perfect combination comes along that you just can’t resist,” she says. “I was able to combine my unwavering belief in the children of the CCC with meaningful support by creating a charitable gift annuity from my IRA. I couldn’t be more pleased with this arrangement and highly recommend it.”
